THE PEACOCK

2009
Hamilton, Scotland
2m diameter
Commissioned by Kevin and Margot Lafferty

Kevin and Margot Lafferty are avid collectors of all things Arts and Crafts. Their Glasgow home is like a shrine to the movement, adorned with stained glass, carved wooden panelling, paintings and bespoke furniture. In the true spirit, Kevin believes in commissioning contemporary craftsmen to make works of art.

The Peacock
derives its form from a silver and rock crystal brooch made by C. R Ashbee in 1900. A cut stone surround forms the background and frame to the pebble mosaic.

“. . .as a collector of Arts and Crafts works and a patron of contemporary artists and craftsmen, I was delighted to discover a mosaic artist who could transform our garden space into an enduring memorial to the movement”.
